KINGSLAND — Camden County High School has hired Robert Sphire as its new head football coach. The Camden school board unanimously approved hiring Sphire at Tuesday’s meeting.
Sphire, currently head coach at North Gwinnett High School, took the team to the state championship game in 2007 and 2013. He has amassed 282 wins as a head coach at schools in Kentucky and Georgia.
His hiring means the Wildcats will abandon the Wing-T offense played at Camden County schools the past two decades. The team will play a pass-first spread offense that is expected to put lots of points on the scoreboard.
Athletic director Gary Blount said he expects it will take about a year to get the coaching staff and players accustomed to the new offense.
Sphire will assume his new duties as Camden head coach in February.
