Four members of the Georgia Coastal Artists Guild received honors from Governor Nathan Deal at the Georgia Capitol on Oct. 4, 2016. Selected from more than 100 entrants from across the state, the four local artists chosen, Phillip Bates, Jennifer Broadus, Karen Burnett and George Netherton, were honored in the Georgia Council of the Arts program, “The Art of Georgia II: Portraits of Community,” in collaboration with the Office of the Governor. “The Art of Georgia II: Portraits of a Community” selected 30 two- and three-dimensional pieces of original art to be prominently exhibited throughout the State Capitol Building through April 2017. A ceremony honoring the artists was conducted in the governor’s private chambers at the State Capitol with both Governor and Mrs. Nathan Deal presiding.
The second iteration of this program honoring Georgia Artists, The Georgia Council of the Arts conducts this competition every two years.
