A national home and lifestyle TV network on Thursday unveiled a remodeled St. Simons Island home it intends to give away in a sweepstakes.
HGTV’s “Dream Home 2017” TV special will award one winner a 3,600-square-foot home in the island’s Sea Palms subdivision, along with $250,000 cash and a 2017 Honda Pilot SUV.
The total prize package is valued at $1.7 million before taxes, according to Kristin Alm, HGTV spokeswoman.
The home, originally built in the 1980s, was redesigned by HGTV crews over the course of a year. It was gutted, remodeled and outfitted with decor from retailers including Wayfair furniture, Delta Faucets, Sleep Number mattresses and Bose audio.
“One of the most challenging things about the remodel was we felt like the house had a beautiful view, but it was closed in,” said Scott Branscom, project manager for HGTV. “We really wanted to open the house up, and we took out a lot of walls.”
The three-bedroom, four-bathroom home sits adjacent to a lake, and features a private swimming pool, home gym and backyard fire pit.
“The main living spaces reflect an entertaining-savvy layout that features muted, muddy earth tones mixed with bright whites,” HGTV said in a promotional statement. “Comfortable furniture and formal statement pieces are intertwined with casual textiles. A selection of modern art elevates the house to a game-changing showstopper.”
A TV special chronicling the home’s remodel, “DIY Behind the Build: HGTV Dream Home,” is set to air on HGTV at 11 p.m. Dec. 28. Another program featuring the home, “HGTV Dream Home Special,” will premiere at 8 p.m. Jan. 1.
To enter the sweepstakes, contestants may visit www.HGTV.com between Dec. 28 and Feb. 17. Two entries are allowed per day, and the network expects as many as 100 million entries. Entrants must be U.S. citizens.
Once the entry period has concluded, a third-party auditor will draw a winner from the pool of entrants. The drawing is expected in late February and a winner announcement by early March, Alm said.
This is the second Georgia home HGTV has given away through its Dream Home sweepstakes. In 2004, the network awarded a St. Marys home to a contestant. The first HGTV Dream Home was presented in 1997 in Jackson Hole, Wyo.
HGTV reaches an estimated 92 million homes, according to the network, and bills the sweepstakes as “one of the most successful consumer promotions in cable history.”
