ST. MARYS — Secretary of State and candidate for governor of Georgia Brian Kemp will be in St. Marys June 24 to address a breakfast meeting at the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Kemp served in the Georgia senate from 2002 until 2006. He has served as Secretary of State since 2010.
Jim Burnham, an Eagle club member, said it’s the first time Kemp has planned a visit to Camden County for a public speaking engagement. He said Kemp accepted the invitation after he planned another campaign visit to Coastal Georgia over the weekend.
Kemp will speak during the breakfast before a question/answer session is held.
Burnham said his club is non-partisan and welcomes both Republicans and Democrats running for office.
Kemp’s responsibilities as Secretary of State include tracking corporate filings, granting professional licenses, governing and regulating fundraising and charitable organizations and overseeing the state securities market.
Under his watch, Kemp introduced online voter registration, streamlined the corporate registration process and improved communications with Georgia businesses.
Kemp is among a number of Republicans expected to run for the office to replace Gov. Nathan Deal, who cannot seek a third term because of term limits.
The breakfast, featuring sausage, bacon, eggs, grits, hash browns and biscuits and gravy, begins at 9 a.m. and is expected to last about 90 minutes. Admission is $7, with proceeds supporting the Wee Read Project in Camden County.
