Two Glynn County school administrators will be stepping into new roles at the start of the new year, the school system announced on Thursday.
Sung Hui Lewis has been promoted to assistant superintendent of pre-kindergarten to 5th grade instruction, and Pam McKinnon was promoted to special education director, following the retirement of Carol Geiken.
“These are two educational leaders who have proven themselves to be dedicated, compassionate and enthusiastic about their work,” said Superintendent Howard Mann in a statement. “The school administration, teachers, staff and students who work with these two women in their various capacities know they can call on Mrs. Lewis or Dr. McKinnon anytime they have a question or concern, and the matter will be resolved. I’m proud to be able to reward these two women as their careers have grown in our system.”
For the past four years, Lewis has held the position of director of early academics. She has a 31-year career in early education, and has served as an elementary school teacher, an elementary school assistant principal and an elementary school principal.
“The children are my No. 1 priority, and I know it is important to never forget what it is like to be in the classroom as a teacher,” Lewis said. “Each time I can help a child better grasp a new lesson, or help a teacher find a way to an answer, it is a reward for me.”
McKinnon has served in various counseling and special education instruction roles for 20 years, and for the past year and a half she has held the position of special education coordinator.
“In my new role, I hope to continue supporting our teachers as they provide the most effective specially designed instruction to meet the needs of our students with disabilities,” McKinnon said. “In doing so, we will succeed in the overall mission of increasing the graduation rate of our special education students and preparing them for higher education and/or the workforce.”
The school system announced these two promotions following the first board of education meeting of the year on Tuesday.
