Dwayne Mike Purvis, 72, of Waverly, Ga., entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, with his loving family by his side.
Dwayne was born on July 25, 1944 in Darien, Ga., and was the son of the late Issac Whitney Purvis and the late Mary Ruth Purvis. He had been a resident of Waverly, Ga., for the past 30 years and was the devoted husband of 42 years to the late Virginia “Ginger” Pearl Purvis. Dwayne was a Vietnam veteran and served his country with honors in the United States Army. He supported the DAV Golden Isles Chapter No. 36 and the Wounded Warrior Program. He was a lifetime member of the DAV Golden Isles Chapter No. 36.
Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents, Issac Whitney and Mary Ruth Purvis; and his wife Virginia Pearl Purvis. He is survived by his two daughters, Janet Bennett and Maureen Williamson, both of Atlanta, Ga.; four sons, Phillip Coffey of Waverly, Ga., Mike Coffey of Brunswick, Ga., George Williamson of Norman, Okla., and Jerry Coffey of Baltimore, Md.; 10 grandchildren, including locally, Raymond Williamson, Casandra Williamson, Zachary Bennett and Savannah Boyd; and two great-grandchildren, also survive.
Dwayne loved to spend time with his family and friends and enjoyed working with his hands, including woodworking and working on cars. He also loved to fish. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him and his family will have many memories to cherish for years to come.
The family will receive friends between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
