Gene E. Hopkins, (USN, Ret.), 91, of Brunswick, passed away Mar. 8, 2017, at his residence.
Mr. Hopkins was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Alma, Neb., to Glenn and Stella Mansfield Hopkins. He retired as master chief from the United States Navy after 28 years of enlistment, having served during World War, II, Korea and Vietnam. After his military retirement, he moved to Brunswick, and worked as parts manager for several auto dealerships. He was admired and loved by all who knew him. At his request, a private service will be held by his family.
Survivors include a daughter, Terri Wood (Sterling), of Brunswick; a son, Randy L. Hopkins (Melanie) of Walnut Creek, Calif.; six grandchildren, James Hopkins, Thomas Hopkins, Kimberly Smith (Barry), Stephanie Sutton (Neil), Michelle Whatley (Will) and Christopher Hanover; and six great-grandsons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Smith; and a son, Arthur Lynn Hanover.
