There is a big, loud and ridiculously fast event coming to the Golden Isles this weekend — an event the likes of which we haven’t seen in more than 20 years.

Wings Over Golden Isles air show will be tearing up the sky Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the best aerial acrobatics and aeronautic technology in the world.

It is a long time coming too. The show was originally set for this past October. If you remember, the weather didn’t exactly cooperate. Hurricane Matthew saw to that, canceling the air show and forcing it to move to a new date.

That may have saddened some airshow fans, but in the end, it may have worked out for the better. In October, the headlining act was going to be the Royal Canadian Air Force’s Snow Birds, a demonstration that would have been exhilarating.

But since we are here in the good ol’ U.S. of A, it is only fitting that we see the best America has to offer. In stepped the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. The Blue Angels and their F-18 Hornets are widely regarded as the premiere military jet demonstration team.

Then, less than a month ago, air show organizers announced the U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor Demo Team will perform as well. Now Golden Isles residents will get to see two of the most impressive military jets in the world flown by some of the best pilots in the world.

Otherwise, the schedule is just as stacked. The U.S. Army’s Sky Soldiers Cobra Demo Team will display what their helicopters can do; USSOCOM Para-Commandos will sky-dive for in for the show; several civilian teams and individuals like the AeroShell Aerobatic team, Mike Wiskus, Michael Goulian, Jerry “Jive” Kerby and others will also grace our skies this weekend.

Organizers are hoping more than 50,000 people come out for the shows. If that is the case, there are sure to be plenty of out-of-towers in the crowd who come to Glynn County and stay in hotels, eat at restaurants and give a quick boost to our local economy.

All in all, it is setting up to be a great weekend that you will not want to miss. To make sure you don’t miss it, go online and visit for tickets.
