It wasn’t the best of results Tuesday for College of Coastal Georgia’s men’s tennis and men’s golf teams at their respective NAIA championships.
The Mariners’ men’s golf team carded a 32-over 316 in Tuesday’s first round of the NAIA Championship in Silvis, Ill.
Playing the TPC Deere Run course, Paxton Shuman had the best round for Coastal. The Brunswick native carded three birdies to go against five bogeys and a double bogey to finish with a 4-over 75.
Taylor Guilbeau had the second-best score for Coastal with an 8-over 79. Eamon Owen (10 over) and Lauri Hacklin (10 over) provided Coastal’s final two scores. Seth Sanders carded a 12 over.
Coastal is alone in 22nd place with Cardinal Stritch University leading the pack.
Play continues today with the second round.
In Mobile, Ala., Coastal’s men’s tennis team lost its first-round match to Asbury University 6-3.
Asbury led 2-1 after the doubles portion of the match with the No. 3 team of Josh Banks and Ben Dolan winning Coastal’s lone doubles point with an 8-5 victory.
Coastal had a 3-2 lead after the first two singles matches concluded with Dolan winning 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles and Kenta Naka winning 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Asbury won the remaining four singles matches to advance. The Mariners finish the season with a 14-7 record.
